Amb. Anil Wadhwa

Distinguished Former Diplomat

Amb. Anil Wadhwa served the Indian Foreign Service from 1979 to 2017 as a member and has represented his country as the Indian Ambassador to Italy, Thailand, Oman, Poland, San Marino and Lithuania. During his tenure as Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, he oversaw foreign relations with South East Asia and West Asia, the Gulf, the Pacific and Australasia. Additional to his service as the Indian Ambassador, he also held the position of Permanent Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and headed the government relations, media and public affairs branches for Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague.

Ambassador Wadhwa has been India’s chief delegate to the East Asia summit, ASEAN – India summit, Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit, Asian Cooperation Dialogue, the Arab League, Mekong-Ganga Cooperation and ASEAN Regional Forum meetings. He has been leading the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) task force for writing the ‘Australia Economic Strategy Report’ for the government of India. Ambassador Wadhwa currently also holds the position of being a Distinguished Fellow with the Vivekananda International Foundation, New Delhi, and contributes as an Independent Director on the boards of major corporates.
